That said it does not shy away from mainstream topics and during the World Cup the football fanzine Café Calcio was born to cover the cultural, artistic and social aspects of the game which, despite the deluge of soccer coverage, struggle to find a voice on mainstream media. A subsequent autumn season covered racism, fan culture and many other topics in the hour long Friday night live slot mixing studio guests and pre recorded interviews. For the new season which started on February 4th topics include psychology, women in football, soccer architecture and football in film and theatre.
This latest series of the football fanzine show will run till the end of the football season when regular presenters, Chris Dixon, David Stubbs and Chris Roberts will be joined by a series of experts to discuss topics around the game. Amongst the items covered in the coming weeks will be the psychology of football, ground architecture, old and new soccer media, women and football, football at the cinema and the debate on atmosphere and safe standing. As well as these we will have specials on the game in North America, Germany and Russia.
There is a new formation to the latest series with the tone setting opener by David Stubbs being more conversational and the replacement of the Resonance Galaticos by a weekly topic called Football Art Masterclass. In this Chris Roberts introduces a number of the major art movements and theories and linking them very specifically with certain clubs, epochs or other aspects of the game. Consider it a painless lesson in art theory and for the artists a succinct introduction to football through the prism of art theory.
Chris Dixon will be once again the garrulous ringmaster bringing guests, presenters and music to cheerful frothy climax on the airwaves.
