| The
third Hungarian Poetry Anthology:
This is the third book of Hungarian poems translated into English. As with the first two, it is arranged so that the original poems are faced by their English translations. This facilitates comparisons. This "New anthology" contains translations of several famous classical Hungarian poets, poems by two Transylvanian poets and the poems of members of the "New Generation" who call themselves "The Society of the Ten", headed by Kalman Kemenes. Hbk 279 pages.£10.00 plus postage. Payment by paypal below.

It may be the first book but it is also the last word on the subject. Exhaustively researched, extensively annotated and closely argued Dr Bonnerjea has produced a work of scholarship that is as exciting as fiction. A noted linguist Dr Bonnerjea knows Eskimo and Aleutian along with a tranche of European languages. This has enabled him to access source material from across the old and new world that has never been brought together before.

The book is packed with astonishing revelations about Eskimos who for centuries were regarded with wonder and awe. Being mistaken for (in no particular order) mermaids, seals, fishes, trolls, Tartars, Chinamen, Lapps, Pygmies and naturally American Indians. The name we know them by, Eskimo, comes from the Algonkian speaking American Indians and means raw flesh eater. The 'Eskimos' simply refer to themselves as Inuit, meaning people or mankind. Anyone interested in ethnology, anthropology, sociology or linguistics and the complex evolution of this unique culture will find this book indispensable. Published by Biro Family Ltd. Budapest. Hungary. June 2004 ISBN 963 9289 884 470 pages. 55 rare illustrations |
