Bridge Stories: The idea of this page is to post any stories or events, personal or just ones handed down, that people want to e-mail us with. Any events that have occurred to them or they have seen on or near one of London's bridges. Anyone submitting a story will be entered into a draw for a free copy of Cross River Traffic plus the best story entered overall will automatically win a copy. If you want to tell your own
bridge story please The stories are arranged according to the bridges in the book but if you want to relate anything that's occurred to you in the tunnels or on the railway crossings that's fine as well. Please indicate in your e-mail if you want to be accredited or remain anonymous. Anything funny, unusual, poignant, haunting, whatever. We would also like any words or phrases, rhyming slang included, relating the bridges. The first of these is Lambeth Bridge Lycra: An adjective to describe a cyclist in full uniform of lycra, helmet, fluorescent top, padded bottom and slightly superior attitude. Now whilst it's true whizzy cyclists in full on lycra are not unique to bridges or Lambeth specifically, they do seem particularly prominent there. What drives home the experience is that the slight upwards curve of Lambeth Bridge often allows a full on baboon's arse view as the cyclists tilts up for that spot of extra effort going over the bridge at speed. If you want to tell your own bridge story please e-mail us at [email protected] Anyone wanting to vote for their favourite bridge can do so at the same e-mail
